Esfarayen: A Hub of Industry, Academia, and Nature
Esfarayen is a key industrial and agricultural city located in North Khorasan Province, Iran. Situated approximately 300 km northwest of Mashhad, 60 km from Bojnourd, and 120 km from Sabzevar, the city enjoys excellent connectivity for travel, trade, and academic cooperation.
Academic Environment
Esfarayen is recognized as a major academic center in the region, hosting four universities: Esfarayen University of Technology, Esfarayen University of Medical Sciences, Islamic Azad University, and Payame Noor University. These institutions drive educational and research development and attract students from across the country.
Industrial Landscape
Esfarayen is a dynamic industrial center, playing a vital role in the region's economic growth through employment opportunities, manufacturing capacity, and substantial industrial output. The city's industrial zone houses numerous factories and facilities. A key player in this landscape is the Esfarayen Industrial Complex (EICO), established in 1990, located about 12 km from the Bojnourd–Esfarayen road. EICO specializes in steel-making and heavy manufacturing, producing forged parts for sectors such as oil and gas, railways, mining, power generation, shipbuilding, and the automotive industry. Additionally, many local companies actively collaborate with universities on research projects, internships, and training programs.
Natural Environment
Esfarayen is blessed with a rich natural landscape, framed by two prominent national parks: Saluk and Sarigol. These protected areas are crucial for preserving regional biodiversity and offer excellent opportunities for hiking, camping, and environmental research. The region's diverse terrain—including mountains, rivers, springs, juniper forests, plains, green valleys, and deserts—gives it a unique geographical character and scenic beauty year-round, attracting nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.
